My 20 year old son is a high functioning person with aspergers. He's a senior in college. Well, as a very young child he was diagnosed with ADDHD without hyperactivity. Through time (and many, many therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists) he was rediagnosed as having an anxiety disorder, then ADDHD again, depression. Finally, sick of feeling like a "zombie" with the side effects of all the meds, he took himself off all medication. He's coped okay but really has difficulty with social situations and relationships. He refuses to even consider getting into a relationship and that breaks my heart. He says he feels like he speaks a different language than anyone he goes to school with - doesn't understand the hidden language, doesn't pick up on social cues, doesn't have the same sense of humor. What self help audio books, books, or DVD's are out there that might help him?

Comment by Mark Walsh on August 20, 2012 at 7:09am Are you familiar with "The Journal of Best Practices" by David Finch? It played a major role in my life when I was first diagnosed with AS about six months ago. I'm now 46. It's written by a man with AS. It deals largely with how his Asperger's has affected his marriage, and the steps he's taken to improve his relationship. It's excellent!
